Camping – Craters Of The Moon National Monument & Preserve (U.S. National Park Service)

Craters of the Moon is situated at the southern tip of the Pioneer range and is quite high in elevation, ranging from 5,000 to over 7,700 feet. Only the northern end of the monument has development of any kind. You’ll find a visitor center and museum, a few picnic sites, a developed campground, and many miles of hiking trails.

Craters of the Moon National Monument is located in Idaho between the small towns of Arco and Carey. The entrance to the park can be found on U.S. Highway 26 which is part of the Peaks to Craters Scenic Byway. Here is the official address: 1266 Craters Loop Road, Arco, ID 83213.

Camping – Craters Of The Moon National Monument & Preserve (U.S. National Park Service) During the summer, be sure to visit Craters of the Moon National Monument in early morning or late evening because of the weather. Temperatures can start getting pretty warm by 9 a.m., so get there as soon as you can in the morning. That’s not to say that winter might be any better. This is a landscape of extremes.
